10 years already?!
About a week ago, I got an e-mail about my 10 year high school reunion and I couldn't believe it. First of all, I was astonished that we are actually going to have one because the people in charge aren't really what I would call, dependable. Second of all, I thought how much weight I could lose between now and August, and third, I can't believe I've been graduated for 10 years! It's kind of a weird feeling when you look back at the past 10 years and think of the differences between then and now, which are quite a few, such as hairstyles, clothing choices, music, and so much more. Now, I felt I must compose a list of the things that were cool back then and how uncool they are now.
Hairstyles:
1) "The Roman"-This cut was popular among the male crowd because, I think, that was when the movie Gladiator came out. Either that, or they had all just read "Julius Caesar" in their English classes.
2) "The Rachael"-This shaggy haircut was very popular, mostly among the cheerleading crowd who all thought they looked like Rachael Green from "Friends", a crowd that I was not a part of.
3) "The Bob"-This haircut was called "The Bob" but I personally referred to it as the "Helmet" much to the chagrin of my friends who sported the cut.
4) "The Perm"-I know, I know, this style was and still is around but can't we do something to stop it?
5) "The Hippie"-And finally, this was the style I sported, as well as many of my friends. What could have been cooler than really long, straight hair parted down the middle? To me, nothing.
Clothing Choices:
1) Overalls-Yes, I wore overalls and thought they were the coolest thing since sliced bread and I'll be honest, if I could still get away with it, I'd throw them back on. And no, your eyes don't deceive you, two of us were sporting the overalls.
2) "Stussy" shirts-It's interesting how cool these shirts were because EVERYONE wore them. I wonder what Mr. Stussy is doing now that no one is wearing his shirts anymore.
3) Fisherman hats-I hated those blasted things and to all that continue to wear them, and you know who you are, if you aren't actually in a fishing boat or anywhere near a body of water, for the love, take it off.
4) Guy Sandals with Socks-These sandals looked almost like gladiator sandals, which is probably why guys who sported the "Roman" most often wore them, but when the socks, white cotton, were added, they jumped the shark.
5) Doc Martens-I loved these shoes, all of them, including the boots, mary janes, dress shoes, and any other variety they have and to be honest, I still think they're pretty cool.
Music: This category is the one that I will not make fun of because 10 years later, no one has touched how great these bands were, and how great some of them are still today.
1) Rage Against The Machine-From Zach de la Rocha's anti-government lyrics to the amazing guitar playing, this group was not only amazing on their cd's, they were a tremendous live show.
2) Sarah McLachlan-She is still making music, but her "Surfacing" album that came out in '98, I feel, is her most excellent. But even though I felt that was her best, every other cd she has put out is almost as good.
3) U2-I have always liked U2, but not every song on every album. Luckily, '98 brought out "The Best Of" compilation and it has all of the popular and not so popular songs on it. I still play that album all the time.
4) Weezer-I know that Weezer's self-titled came out before '98, but I loved it the most during that year and love it even more now.
5) Lauryn Hill-And finally, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" album was not only award winning with 5 grammy's, it was also a great cd where each song was better than the next.

Layton High...Oh, the memories! Did I seriously wear my letterman's jacket in my driver's license photo??! WOW, the things I thought were cool. Hey, the boys and I are going to be in Utah the next couple of weeks. It would be fun to get together.
Hey, Its me Libby, Jennys friend. So I loved reading this and I love the music part the most. I think I listened to The Miseducation of Lauren Hill every day for a year. You had and continue to have some dang good taste.
Yea, you may have been one grade ahead of me, but remember I'm older
